Haozhen Ding is a dedicated Ph.D. candidate in Geotechnical Engineering at the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, with a joint Ph.D. candidacy at the University of Melbourne. His research focuses on soil mechanics, fluid mechanics, and the mechanical properties of porous materials. Haozhen has contributed significantly to understanding particle transport and multi-phase flow in porous media, as well as the mechanical behavior of coral reefs and sedimentary evolution.

Education🎓

Haozhen Ding is currently pursuing his Ph.D. in Geotechnical Engineering at the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (Aug 2020–Present) and a joint Ph.D. at the University of Melbourne (Sep 2023–Present). He earned his B.Eng. in Civil Engineering from Hefei University of Technology (Aug 2016–July 2020).

Experience💼

Haozhen Ding has been a Graduate Researcher at the Porous Media Research Laboratory, UINMELB, since May 2024, where he focuses on advanced image processing algorithms and Discrete Element Methods (DEM). He has also been a Research Intern at the Center for Marine and Environmental Geotechnical Engineering, IRSM-CAS, since July 2022, studying the seepage deformation characteristics of coral sand. Additionally, he worked as a Graduate Student Researcher for a scientific investigation in the South China Sea (Oct 2022–Dec 2022) and as a Major Participant in the Marine Engineering Geology Group, IRSM-CAS (Sep 2021-Mar 2022).

Research Interests🔬

Haozhen’s research interests include soil mechanics, fluid mechanics, DEM, and fluid-solid coupling methodologies. His applications focus on particle transport and multi-phase flow in porous media, as well as the mechanical properties of porous sand and coral reefs sedimentary evolution.

Haozhen Ding has received the UCAS Merit Student Prize in 2022 and the Provincial Award of the College Students Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition in 2019.
